Critical Institutions Symposium: Machines

The English Department is delighted to be hosting the Critical Institutions Symposium on February 26, 2016, 10:00–6:00. The theme this year is "Machines" and the days lectures and discussions contain lots of material related to Film and Media:
10:00-12:15: Keynote: Kaveh Askari: “Eastern Boys, Failed Heroes, and Orphan Histories of the Iranian New Wave” followed by roundtable
1:00-3:15: Keynote: Marisa Parham: “Without Innovation: African American Lifeworlds and The Internet of Things” followed by roundtable
3:45-6:00: Orit Halpern: “Demoing unto Death: Smart Cities, Environment, and ‘Apocalyptic Hope’” followed by roundtable
Film Studies in conjunction with Muslim Studies is specifically sponsoring the lecture by Dr. Askari, who is coming from Doha, Qatar.
