We are delighted to be hosting visual artist and filmmaker Joseph Bernard on campus on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Film Collective in Wells B122 at 8pm. He'll be showing selections from his recently restored super-8 films, collected on the Bluray disc Prismatic Music, which contains 40 of his more than 100 films produced between 1975 and 1985.

Bernard's films are, technically speaking, small and quiet. Composed as silent works, on the small gauge format of super 8.

But they are also anything but.

Dense and rhythmic and bursting with colors that engulf the viewer, these works are precious gems that catch the flickering light of the projector and ring out in visual harmonies. These prismatic films transform scenes of family life and every day happenings into songs of experience that move one in ways that only the best films can. We are so fortunate that these works, unseen for so long, have gotten a much-deserved second archival life that brings them back into public life, for generations to come.
